Upcoming Classes and workshops:

Please note, the dates are class start dates. Most classes are
6 week sessions unless otherwise noted on webpage or in flier!

All of our "basic training" types of classes (Family Dog, Adolescent Manners, Puppy Classes) allow for make up classes to be taken in a six week period after your current session is up.  This means that if you are working in a certain class, and you cannot make one or more days, you are able to take a class in any of our Family Dog classes that are on scheduled Monday afternoons, Tuesday or Thursday evenings, Friday mornings, and Saturday afternoons.

We do this specifically because the average family just has a hard time making six weeks in a row.  This way you don't lose out the opportunity to learn and still be able to get started in training as soon as possible.

Class Descriptions

Agility Classes:

Agility Foundation Program:
For dogs and handlers with little or no experience with agility, or who have completed the Agility Preparation for Young Dogs class. The AF class is made up of two levels, AF1 and AF2. You will begin by enrolling in the AF1 class. When you and your dog pass the requirements for AF1, you will move into the AF2 class.
Both classes are offered on Saturday and Sunday evenings. A punchcard system is used for class attendance.

When you enroll you will purchase a punchcard to use for admittance to class. You will have 3 months to use the 6 classes in the AF program. You will notify the instructor for each class you attend. If you need to cancel, you must do so 24 hr prior to class. If you do not notify the instructor, your card will be punched for that class and you forfeit that class fee.

If you complete the AF program with classes remaining on your card, they will be applied towards your novice class fee.

Novice:
This class is for dogs that have graduated the Beginning Foundation program
. We will start working more sequences and continue to work with skills started in the BFP.

Intermediate
Teams in this class are working to enter, or are currently competing at novice-level classes in trials. Students will continue growing in handling skills as well as helping develop confidence in both dog and handler
. Work continues on obstacle vs. handler focus.

Advanced
For dogs/handlers competing at the Open-level or above. We continue working on refining handling skills, and course analysis.

Pre-Agility - Building confidence in your young dog
This class is for backyard fun and those who may wish to comptete in trials someday. We introduce many different types of equipment and obstacles. We work on recalls, stays, getting your dog to work independently, teaching confidence, curiosity, and body awareness.

Click Your Heels!:
FOCUS, OBEDIENCE, GAMES, FREESTYLE, TRICKS….all packed into one of the most fun and unusual classes you will ever take in dog training.  While we learn how to teach our dog tricks, we gain experience in shaping and using a clicker. We play games that increase your dog’s focus, improve obedience skills, and strengthen your relationship.  You’ll learn to train your dog how to “tune out” their environment and ultimately choose you. From beginning to end, it’s all about getting your dog In Focus!

Family Dog:
Family dog class will help your dog become a good family member in your house. We cover essential behaviors like sit, down, come, stay and walking nicely on a leash, as well as things like teaching your dog to not jump when greeting people, mouthing, etc.

Obedience Classes…..Happy Heels!!:
Heel, Sit, Stay, Come when Called, plus a whole lot more.  All the basics of formal obedience training are taught by using only totally positive training methods.  We offer beginning which teaches proper heel position along with fronts, finishes and recalls….. advanced classes teach freestyle moves along with pre-rally…..and ring-ready classes teach you how to put it all together to compete in the obedience classes of: Companion Dog,  Companion Dog Excellent, and Utility Dog.  You’d be amazed at what your dog is capable of learning and doing!

Older Puppy Basics:
For puppies 4 months through 7 months of age. We can help teach your puppy to become a well mannered adult companion. We will show you how to get your puppy to listen to you, how to calm puppy, and deal with problem behaviors like housetraining, biting, jumping etc.  We will have a mock vet visit to learn how to use basic commands (sit, down, come, stay, heel etc.) in real life situations.

Puppy 1:
You and your 8 - 16 week old puppy will learn sit, down, come, stay and walk on a leash. Topics such as housebreaking, jumping up, chewing, and how to introduce your puppy to people and other dogs will be covered.

Puppy 2:
Continuation of Puppy 1, expanding and refining sits, downs, stay and walking on loose leash. Will introduce heel, stand, and clicker training using games and tricks to increase puppy's learning. This class is for graduates of Puppy 1.

Rally Obedience:
If you want a stress-free way to train obedience skills, RALLY is the perfect solution! Rally is an obedience sport that has numbered courses with different exercises for you and your dog to perform.  The courses are different each time and may be something as simple as SIT or CIRCLE RIGHT.  Advanced work would include exercises such as HEELING BACKWARDS!  And what’s best about RALLY is that dogs of any age, purebred or mixed, are encouraged to compete…….from puppies to veterans.  AND disabled dogs or handlers are able to modify the exercises to enable them to play RALLY. It’s WIN-WIN dog training!

Tricks Class:
Want to do something else fun with your dog? Try this class which will introduce and/or hone your skills as a clicker trainer while we work on tricks to entertain yourself, your dog, your family and friends! A great way to enrich the relationship between you and your best friend!
Class pre-requisite of Family Dog or Puppy 2 class, and dogs should know sit, down, and basic stay.

CGC Class:
This class is designed to help handlers and dogs master the skills necessary to earn the AKC Canine Good Citizen award. Each week we will work on loose leash walking, come when called, and other socialization and obedience concepts necessary for passing the CGC test. This class is open to all dogs (including mixed breeds) who are at least 6 months old.

It is recommended that dogs have previous exposure to classroom obedience training, and understand sit, down, stay, come when called and loose leash walking prior to class.

The AKC CGC Evaluation test is given at the conclusion of the CGC class. Dogs who successfully meet evaluation criteria will receive the distinctive Canine Good Citizen Award from the American Kennel Club. Teams may register for the test only.

The ten steps that must be passed to earn  a CGC certificate are

1.  Accepting a friendly stranger

2.  Sitting politely for petting

3.  Appearance and grooming

4.  Out for a walk (walking on a loose leash)

5. Walking through a crowd

6.  Sit and down on command/staying in place

7.  Coming when called

8.  Reaction to another dog

9.  Reaction to distractions

10.  Supervised separation

All of these exercises are explained on the AKC website at www.akc.org.  Type in Canine Good Citizenship in the SEARCH box and look around in that section.
